国や地域を超えたグローバルな視点での協力を行うにあたって，言語はもちろんのこと，国・地域間の様々な「違い」が障壁となることが少なくありません。グローバルな協力を行うにあたっての支障となる「違い」を言語以外から一つ選び，それがどんな問題を生じさせるのかを説明した上で，その問題をどのように解決したらよいかまでを，150 語程度の英語で具体的に述べなさい。
なお，文法や綴りも採点の対象となります。

One of the barriers to global cooperation is cultural difference. Culture differs from place to place as well as in language, causing various problems such as conflicts and misunderstandings.
Cultural differences can cause various problems, especially misunderstandings between people from different cultures. For example, an apology has a different meaning depending on cultures. In Japan, it shows sincerity and courtesy, while in other countries, it might show that there is a lack of self-confidence. When speaking in English, Japanese often apologizes for their in-proficiency in English at the beginning of the speech. Unfortunately, this gives non-Japanese audience a bad impression that the speaker is not confident in the content of the speech.
One way to solve these problems is cross-cultural understanding. It means to recognize difference in each other’s culture. You should, first, understand your own culture better and try to explain it to foreigners, while you try to understand other cultures. This makes it possible to clear up misunderstanding and promote international cooperation.

大問四解説
2014年～2017年までは、テーマに対する賛成または反対を問う出題でした。しかし、2018年の問題「グローバルな協力の障壁となる『違い』の問題点と対策」は賛否の問題ではなく、テーマに対する問題点と解決策を問う内容に変わりました。2018年に本番で解いた生徒の中には、この問題形式の変更に戸惑った生徒もいたようです。
まず、英文を書く前に、問題点や解決策やそれらの具体例を箇条書きで一度簡単に整理しましょう。
グルーバルな協力の障壁となる国や地域間の「違い」を考えます。生徒の答案や琉球大学の解答例などから、この問題は「習慣の違い」や「宗教の違い」などの文化面の違いでテーマを決めるほうがよいでしょう。テーマが決まったら、テーマに沿った問題点とその解決策を考えます。

一度、箇条書きで整理した後は、「テーマの明示→問題点→解決策」の構造を意識するとわかりやすく文章を書くことができます。あとは、それぞれのパラグラフに内容に合う具体例を織り交ぜます。論理展開が正しいかを意識しながら書きましょう。
琉球大学の英作文は、150語程度と文章量が多くまた初見で書くにはなかなか難しい内容(社会問題がテーマ)が多いです。自由英作文は、一人で対策するのは難しいので、小論文と同じように先生に添削をしてもらい、文法的なミスのチェックだけでなく論理展開や考え方などの内容面もしっかりみてもらうのが一番の対策です。普段からさまざまなテーマについて問題形式にとらわれず150語程度で書けるよう練習しましょう。
